If Johns Island thinks it is a good investment to develop over angel oak turf.... then my faith in the state has gone down. Not only is Angel oak an attraction for both tourists and residents, but it is our documentation of history. It provides a good source of clean air. There will be a great backlash if something happens to the trees. I support those who are trying to make sure it doesn't happen. I am telling you, if that tree and the land around it gets paved over, or torn down or dug up, there will be a significant environmental backlash that no one wants to see.

This massive Angel Oak tree HAS touched and IS touching so many people's lives. My wish/prayer/intention is that some day all human beings will awaken to the reality that all beings, human and non human were created by GOD. And that we are all connected. This beautiful tree is our brother/sister. I'm all for building roads, homes, apartment complexes, new businesses. BUT PLEASE consider nature when planning these new constructions. This tree filters air for us humans to breath. Provides shade for us to enjoy. This is also a home for birds, squirrels and other living beings. I've been spread the news about the Angel Oak here in Louisiana. My prayers and other nature lovers from Louisiana are with all of you.

PEACE

Something needs to be done about the very few existing natural old landmarks, you could say of our country. They need not only to be protected, but to be allowed to exist in their natural area with plenty of untouched room -has man not seen what greed has done & led to in plenty of other areas. If not protected now, it will be like leaving the door ajar for more to happen. We will find out where they really stand on what few of this Nations Oldest Pride can be left standing or if they don't mind seeing it go by the wayside.

I would hate to know this tree would no longer be in Charleston when I came to visit. I always took my children to see this tree. Everytime I come to Charleston with friends who have never been there I take them to see this tree. To me this wonderful tree is important as downtown Charleston or Folly Beach Or Sullivans Island, It is a wonderful reminder of days long ago. When my Dad used to bring me and my brother to Charleston something that sadly can never happen again. So please do everything possible to save this tree. Because my children are now 34 and 29 and I would love to bring my grandson who is 16 months to see this tree and have a picnic in the woods with him and this tree.

For the love of God and all he's created. For the love of the human race and all it appreciates, please dont force the life out of this beautiful piece of reality. Just looking at a photo of this tree can change a human spirit, I'm sure of that. It cannot have any disturbances, it is old and it surpasses all we know about life expectancy. I've seen much younger oaks surrender to bugs alone. This tree has purpose and meaning just like a human being. Please leave it as it has been created. Not one human in this world can surpass its strength and if we let it, it may be here till the end of time.

Hello

I am a singer/songwriter/watercolorist who has spent many, many, years painting outdoors and writing music while inspired by nature's/God's handiwork. Of course this is not a religious petition per say, but rather one that makes perfect sense. There is plenty of land to go around and plenty of areas that can be used for developement. But, once you destroy this bautiful 'Angel Oak' there will be no replacing it. These are life's treasures and God knows we have all made enough money on the natural resources lent to us? Is there no shame when developer's have to keep exploiting, abusing, and profiteering by destroying the landscape? Put an end to this, by leaving the damn tree alone, and go build your 'yuppie' Condo's somewhere else!!
